Lost your battery key.
How to find the key number.

A missing key does not automatically mean that the battery lock needs replacing. Check your documents first. For the supported Bosch smart system, the diagnostic report may also help, but only if the manufacturer has stored the key number in the system and it can be read.

Purchases are available only with a billing address in Germany, France, Italy or Spain. Purchases from the United Kingdom, including England, are not available.

Check your key card and purchase documents first

Look for the key card, a spare key, purchase documents or an earlier diagnostic report. Note the complete key number and the lock manufacturer. The frame number and battery serial number are different identifiers and do not replace the key number.

Have the key number read from your eBike

With BlauWerk, the battery stays in the bike. Connect the supported control unit with a USB data cable, switch on the eBike and start the free initial check. This shows whether a diagnostic report can be offered. It does not guarantee that a key number is stored.

During the promotion, until 17 October 2026, 12:31, the report costs €0. We cannot reconstruct a missing number or calculate it from the battery serial number. If you want to order the report solely to find the key number and are unsure, contact us first.

Where is the number in the report?

In the sample report, the field is called “Akkuschlossnummer” (battery lock number). It is on page 1 under “eBike Informationen” (eBike information) and on page 4 under “Sicherheit” (security). Search your PDF for “Akkuschlossnummer” or “Schlüsselnummer” (key number). The location and contents may vary; an empty or missing entry is not a readable number.

Order a suitable replacement key

Contact the lock manufacturer or a specialist dealer with the complete identifier. They will check the lock type and the documents required. BlauWerk creates the report; a replacement key and the process of ordering it are not included.

For example, Riese & Müller identifies the key card and, where applicable, the purchase invoice as places to find the number. Replacement keys are ordered through a specialist dealer. This is information from that manufacturer, not a promise for all bicycle brands.

Cannot unlock the battery even with the key?

The lock may be jammed or damaged, or the key may not fit. Online diagnostics cannot unlock a battery compartment or repair a lock. Have the cause checked on the bike. If no suitable number is available in your documents or in the system, the locking system may need replacing, depending on the manufacturer.

Can your bike provide the report?

Compare your control unit before connecting. Only the Bosch smart system is supported.

Questions about lost battery keys and key numbers

I have lost all the keys to my battery compartment. How can I find the key number?

First check your key card, existing purchase documents or an earlier diagnostic report. For a supported Bosch smart system, the BlauWerk diagnostic report can show the battery lock's key number if the manufacturer has stored it in the eBike system and it can be read. Check compatibility and start the free initial check. If a diagnostic report is offered, you can have it created free during the promotion until 17 October 2026, 12:31. This does not guarantee that a key number is stored.

I can no longer unlock my battery. Can the diagnostic report help?

If you have lost the key, a key number included in the report may help you order a suitable replacement. The number must be stored in the system and readable. If the battery lock jams despite using the correct key, or is damaged, it needs a mechanical check at a workshop. The diagnostic report does not open or unlock the battery compartment.

Is the key number guaranteed to be included in the diagnostic report?

No. It only appears if the manufacturer has stored the number in the system and it can be read. The free initial check shows whether a diagnostic report can be created; it does not guarantee that every individual value is available. If the key number is missing, BlauWerk cannot reconstruct it or calculate it from other numbers. If you want the report created solely for this reason, contact us first if you are unsure.

Do I have to remove the battery to read the key number?

The battery stays in the eBike for the BlauWerk diagnostic report. Connect the supported control unit with a USB data cable and leave the eBike switched on. The bike must be able to switch on and establish a supported diagnostic connection. Whether the key number is included still depends on whether it is stored in the system and readable.

Are the frame number, battery serial number and key number the same?

No. The frame number, battery serial number and key number identify different things. For a replacement key, you need the correct identifier for your battery lock. BlauWerk cannot derive a missing key number from the frame or battery serial number. Ask your bicycle or lock manufacturer which details they need to order a replacement.

How do I order a new battery key using the key number?

Contact the lock manufacturer's key service or a specialist dealer with the complete key number and lock type. Any additional information or documents required depend on the manufacturer and lock type. For ABUS, the number appears on the key or CodeCard, depending on the key type. A replacement key and the process of ordering it are not included in the BlauWerk diagnostic report.
